I started doing ‘Poppies Day’ twelve years ago after my first child was born. We donate all sales for all drinks on a given Saturday in May. Poppies day is a very popular event and is appreciated by both staff and customers.

I decided to assist in fundraising for NCH in an effort to give something back to the hospital for the wonderful care, love and attention my beloved nephew received from ALL the staff at NCH. Many of them went beyond their call of duty to ensure he received the very best, both medically and socially, to help him with his life illness which eventually took him from his family at the age of 20 years.

From skydiving to “strictly” we have had such fun, so “fundraising can be fun” – GO FOR IT!!! Your personal reward is to visit the hospital, feel the family atmosphere and see “Happy Smiles” on the faces of sick and very sick Children.

I organised a fundraiser for the hospital after my son was in Oak ward for a week in Sept 2013. While he was in the playroom we noticed the pool cues were not great so I wanted to get new ones.  I had a ladies football match after Christmas and a karaoke / disco with a raffle after.  We raised €400 on the day.  They were delighted with it! We will have another match this year again!

The NCH was home to my best friend for most of his short life, but the friendships he made with the people there and the memories they created will last a lifetime. I always wanted to give something back to the NCH having witnessed first hand the great work that the staff do and the caring environment they create. Taking part in “Strictly Come Dancing NCH” has been an extremely rewarding experience, great fun, and for such a worthy cause.

We have been donating to NCH for over two years now. We have seen the work that is done in this hospital the care and love the staff have for the sick children is so easy to see. We will continue to support and donate to the NCH and urge others to donate to this deserving cause.

My daughter had been in the hospital both in A&E and up in the wards. I felt because of time spent there if the opportunity ever came up for Yahoo, my employer, to do something locally then National Children’s Hospital needed to be included in that list.  Thankfully, we managed to get things together to help out and make a large donation of toys. I definitely feel pride and a huge personal feeling of doing something positive for the hospital and for the happiness of the children who are patients there.   It was so nice to be involved and I’m happy to work for a company that believes like I do in giving back to those that need it most.  I was happy to serve as the link between Yahoo and the NCH to provide the donation of toys. It was satisfying to see the impact it’s made with all the staff and children at the hospital.
